Nearly all of Ontario’s border with the U.S. runs through water, so crossing almost always means a bridge or a tunnel: on the Niagara River about 90 minutes from Toronto, or on the Detroit and St. Clair rivers farther west.
Nero Limo offers private, flat-rate limo and black car service from anywhere in Ontario to Buffalo, Detroit and beyond. Your chauffeur handles the route, the crossing and the timing. You just bring your documents.
Long before there was a border, the Niagara, Detroit and St. Clair rivers were travel and trade routes for Indigenous nations, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. Anishinaabe communities remain today at Walpole Island and Aamjiwnaang First Nations near Sarnia.
The Niagara River was a front line in the War of 1812, where General Isaac Brock fell at Queenston Heights. A few decades later, thousands of freedom seekers crossed these rivers to Canada on the Underground Railroad, and Harriet Tubman made St. Catharines her home base. In the 1920s, Canadian whisky slipped across the Detroit River to Prohibition-era Detroit.
The modern crossings followed: the Peace Bridge in 1927, the Ambassador Bridge in 1929, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel in 1930, the Blue Water Bridge in 1938 and the Rainbow Bridge in 1941. The 1965 Auto Pact tied car industries on both sides closely together. The newest crossing, the Gordie Howe International Bridge, opened in July 2026.
From the GTA, most U.S. trips follow the QEW to the Niagara crossings. The Peace Bridge in Fort Erie leads straight into Buffalo, the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge (via Highway 405) suits Rochester and the New York State Thruway, and the Rainbow Bridge sits right beside the falls. The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge is for NEXUS members only.
Farther west, Highway 401 leads to Windsor’s three crossings into Detroit: the Ambassador Bridge, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel and the new Gordie Howe bridge. Highway 402 runs from London to the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia, a common route to Chicago. For the Thousand Islands, Prescott and Cornwall crossings, see our Eastern Ontario page.
Border waits range from a few minutes to over an hour, especially on long weekends, U.S. Thanksgiving weekend and summer Saturdays at Niagara. Lake-effect snow near Buffalo and fog on the 401 can slow things down too. Our chauffeurs check live waits and road conditions before every trip and pick the best crossing for you.
A cross-border trip has more moving parts than a regular ride: documents, inspection lines, customs limits, and a flight or meeting that won’t wait. Nero Limo takes care of the planning. You get in the car in Ontario, answer a few questions at the booth, and step out at your terminal or hotel in the U.S. without worrying about the route. Our chauffeurs cross often, our vehicles are comfortable for long days, and your fare is set before you leave.

Our chauffeurs cross regularly and know which bridge tends to move faster at which time of day. They understand how inspections work on both sides and help keep things moving at the booth.
When you book, we'll remind you what each passenger needs to carry. That includes passports, NEXUS cards, and a consent letter for children travelling without both parents. This small step can prevent a long delay.
Ontario flyers often compare fares out of Toronto Pearson, Buffalo, and Detroit. We connect you with all three and plan your pickup around your flight time.
Auto suppliers, manufacturers, and trade professionals cross for plant visits and client meetings every week. A quiet back seat gives you time to prepare on the way there and catch up on email on the way home.
Cross-border rides are pre-booked at a flat rate. You can book a round trip in a single reservation, including wait time on the U.S. side.

We booked Nero Limo for a corporate event during TIFF and had a really good experience. We needed several executive transfers throughout the day, and everything was handled smoothly. The drivers arrived on time, the vehicles were clean and comfortable, and communication was easy from start to finish. Knowing that Nero Limo is also an Official Hospitality Partner of TIFF 2026 made us feel even more comfortable booking them during such a busy time in Toronto. I’d definitely use Nero Limo again for black car services in Toronto.Posted on Google![]()

Canadian and U.S. citizens need a valid passport or NEXUS card, and a passport is usually the simplest option. At land crossings, Canadian and American children under 16 can generally use a birth certificate. Children travelling without both parents should also carry a signed consent letter from the absent parent. Travellers from other countries should check the entry rules for their citizenship before booking, since some will need a visa or travel authorization.
It depends on the crossing, the day, and the time. On a quiet weekday morning, you might wait five or ten minutes. On a holiday weekend, it can take more than an hour. We check wait times before and during the drive and switch crossings when that saves time. We also build extra time into every airport run.
It can be. Fares out of Buffalo are sometimes lower for U.S. destinations, and when we drive you, you skip a week of airport parking fees. In normal conditions, Buffalo’s airport is about 35 to 45 minutes from Niagara Falls, around an hour and a quarter from Hamilton, and roughly two hours from downtown Toronto, plus border time. We’re happy to help you compare the total travel time before you book.
You can’t take cannabis across the border in either direction, even though it’s legal in Canada, Michigan, and New York. Alcohol and tobacco allowances depend on how long you’ve been away, and some fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat products aren’t allowed. Declare everything you’re carrying, and check the CBSA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection websites before you travel.
Yes. Book a round trip or hourly service, and your chauffeur will stay with you for the day, at a game, a meeting, or the outlets, and then drive you back to Ontario. We plan the whole itinerary in one booking.
